Make Diesel Read a Book -- UPDATE
2006/12/#6144414504776754751
2006-12-01
I am thrilled -- THRILLED I tell you -- at the reception my Make Diesel Read a Book contest is getting. For those of you new around here, basically the "contest" works like this:
You create a blog entry on your blog telling me why I should read a particular book. You link to my blog in your blog entry so that people know what the hell you're talking about, and so that I get more nice, literate people visiting my website. You post a comment here letting me know you've posted a suggestion. I update my reading list with your book and a link to your blog. I read your book and post my thoughts on it. Then I move on to the next book. That's it.
That's it? You say. No prizes?
No prizes.
Why not?
Well partly because I'm cheap and lazy, but mainly because I figured that people who are going to do this are going to do it regardless of any material reward. And I don't want people suggesting a book because they think they might win a toaster; I want them to suggest it because they love the book so much that they'll jump at the chance to recommend it.
And so far, my fellow bloggers are surpassing my expectations with some really fantastic suggestions. The list as of now is:
- The Gun Seller, by Hugh Laurie suggested by Joel Bezaire from Crummy Church Signs
- Thus Spoke Zarathustra by Friedrich Nietszche suggested by Angela from Blog It Like You Mean It
- The Eyre Affair, by Jasper Fforde suggested by Robin from Random Observations
- Godel, Escher, Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid by Douglas R. Hofstader suggested by Wolfe from Wolfe's Musings
- The Man Who Mistook His Wife For A Hat: And Other Clinical Tales by Oliver Sacks suggested by Cindra from The Chronicles of Cindra
- Cradle Song by Robert Edric suggested by Basil Dray from Treemendous
- Memories of My Melancholy Whores by Gabriel Garcia Marquez suggested by Pavel from To Be Perfectly Clear
Please let me know if I've overlooked anyone. I will continue to update the full reading list and occasionally post updates here as well.
I haven't had a chance to actually start reading yet (things have been a little upside down at the Diesel household lately), but I will get on it soon.
Read the complete rules here.
